Many present-day companies admire the success of Airbnb and Uber and want to use the same payment processing solutions. However, what really matters is not specific payment gateway software or specific payment service provider, but the functions that they support. In essence, Airbnb and Uber are both online marketplaces. The companies themselves are payment facilitators. The merchants are accommodation owners and drivers (in the cases of Airbnb and Uber, respectively), and, possibly, some other entities. In order to split payment amount among all the interested parties, these companies need to partner with PSPs, that support split funding, have clear reporting logic, and allow them to easily onboard and provision sub-merchants.
