Beside host certification and terminal certification, EMV application parameters and EMV keys represent an important component of EMV certification procedure. EMV application parameters and keys are required for exchange of data between the chip and the EMV kernel of the payment terminal. EMV keys need to be changed at regular time intervals. Consequently, adequate EMV keys rotation procedures are required. EMV keys rotation functionality can either be implemented in the terminal management system (TMS), or in the payment gateway. You need to plan ahead and keep in mind that some development efforts will be needed to implement EMV keys rotation logic as soon as EMV certification process starts.
