Startup merchant
Getting a merchant account may be a serious challenge for startup merchants, especially for a startup merchant, whose business is located outside of the US. It should be stressed that an MSP, PSP or processor can get only about 1% of the total volume processed by a startup merchant. Beside that, the nature of the startup merchant’s business and the risks involved in the process of merchant underwriting, often discourage US-based merchant services companies from granting merchant accounts to small-size merchants, located, for instance, in Asian countries. That is why it might be more reasonable for such businesses to either search for local partners, or agree to pay higher processing fees (at least, at the early stages of a partnership with an MSP).
